Motions opposed in W.Va. bankruptcy case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A request by the president of Freedom Industries to get paid is facing opposition in bankruptcy court.
Freedom Industries is the company at the center of a Jan. 9 chemical leak that spurred a tap water-ban across nine counties. The company sought Chapter 11 protection from its creditors less than two weeks after the spill.
Freedom President Gary Southern is seeking to be paid for his work during the bankruptcy hearings. His annual salary tops $200,000. He also wants his legal expenses paid.
But objections filed Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Charleston oppose both Southern requests.
According to media reports, a U.S. trustee appointed to the case objected to Southern’s motion dealing with legal expenses. Meantime, the committee representing unsecured creditors objected to both requests.
