Two women were arrested Monday by California police after they allegedly stole money from a California man earlier this month after they went to his home to reportedly apologize for stealing from him in the past.
Tiffany Dawn Stewart, 30, of 1030 Shutterly Ave., California, and Trisa Stickle, 22, of 1002 Hunters Ridge Road, Brownsville, were arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, illegal use of credit card and conspiracy.
Police were contacted May 7 by Donald Patterson, who reported the two women had been at his home May 5 under the guise of apologizing to him for a past theft. The two women left, but returned in the early morning hours of May 6 with a check for $900. They also apologized.
Police said while Stewart spoke to Patterson May 6, Stickle allegedly went into the home and stole a debit card and $100 from his wallet. Patterson discovered the theft a few hours later when he went to purchase gasoline.
Bank records and video surveillance show a vehicle matching the description of Stewart’s pull into the Cal-Ed Federal Credit Union. Two occupants of the vehicle got out and made several attempts to withdraw $500.
There also were two transactions at the Walmart in Belle Vernon for $478 and two additional transactions in Brownsville. Police said the total loss to Patterson is $1,168.
Kanalis set bond on both women at $10,000. Stewart was placed in Washington County jail. Stickle was returned to Westmoreland County jail, where she is being held on other charges. A preliminary hearing is set for Monday.
