Defense: Sandusky climate led to verdict against principal

PITTSBURGH (AP) – The defense attorney for a suspended Pittsburgh Public Schools principal says the cultural climate since the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal at Penn State led to his client’s conviction on charges that he exposed himself and made sexual advances in a health club’s sauna and showers.
Defense attorney Phil DiLucente tells the Associated Press that since the Sandusky case, the public is more likely to believe sex-related allegations if they’re made by multiple victims.
DiLucente’s client, 37-year-old Alfonzo DeIuliis, was accused of engaging in sexually suggestive behavior with two men and a teen boy at a suburban fitness center last year. A jury convicted him Wednesday.
Sandusky, a former assistant football coach, is in prison for molesting several boys which resulted in the firing of the late head coach Joe Paterno and NCAA sanctions against Penn State.
