Manslaughter conviction in death of man hit by van

PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania woman has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a man struck by her van following a domestic dispute.
Forty-year-old Demona Anderson of East Pittsburgh told authorities in Allegheny County that she was only trying to stop 42-year-old Dwan Jones from boarding a bus in February 2013.
Assistant District Attorney Edward Scheid argued for a murder conviction, saying that rather than wait for her 911 call to be answered she “decided to create tragedy.”
Defense attorney Richard Narvin said she didn’t mean to kill Jones and acted recklessly while in “emotional distress.”
Common Pleas Judge Donald Machen agreed Wednesday that there were elements of murder but the commonwealth couldn’t prove that charge. He said there was no evidence that Anderson intended to kill the victim.
