The public is invited to attend a special meeting tonight to view new zoning plans and ordinances for Washington and East Washington.

The updated joint comprehensive zoning map and proposed changes have been in discussion for more than a year between city and borough officials.

The biggest changes proposed for the zoning map are the creation of a medical district around Washington Hospital and an educational district that encompasses Washington & Jefferson College. Local officials hope the districts will encourage “compatible development” around the institutions.

Residents can view the plans in the Washington High School gymnasium from 6 to 8 p.m.
