Fiber Fest announces winners
The winning sheep sign for the 11th annual Sheep and Fiber Fest got 9432 votes from customers and workers at the Airport Restaurant. The sign was designed by artist Ann Greenwood.
This year’s sheep signs were sponsored by Rush’s Grocery, Rogersville, McCracken Pharmacy, Artbeat Gallery, Waynesburg Chamber of Commerce and Wayne Lumber.
Kathy Christensen of Pittsburgh took first place in the knit shawl division. Her shawl was also chosen Best of Show in the Sheep and Fiber Fest’s fiber arts contest.
Other winners included People’s Choice, a hooked rug done in the historic “Proud Lion” pattern by Weslee Hursh, Judges Choice awards were a needle felted rug with a hummingbird motif by Bronwyn Collier and a scarf and mitten set by Stephanie Mallory.
First-place winners were knit scarf by Lena Galing, knit throw by Susan Peffer, knit capelet by Susan Thrane, knit hat with bunny ears by Mary Briggs, handspun and woven scarf by Carol McFadden, Bronwyn Collier’s felted rug and gray knit socks by Judith Galbraith.
