PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police have charged three men with burglarizing the largest marijuana-growing operation investigators have seen in the city in about 25 years.

Police responded about 2 a.m. Thursday when someone called 911 to report three men stuffing their pockets and bags with something in the alley behind a building that houses a vending machine company.

Police have charged the three McKeesport men with breaking in and stealing four large garbage bags of pot plants which police believe the men planned to sell themselves.

The resulting investigation resulted in police finding 325 plants growing in a sophisticated setup on the building’s second floor.

Police say the vending company owner owns the building, but police were still investigating Friday who leases the upstairs space and may be responsible for the marijuana plants.
