CINCINNATI (AP) – A $14 million gift from a family foundation will be used to help build a research hospital in southwest Ohio dedicated to finding clues to treating brain and nerve disorders
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the gift from Cintas founder James Gardner’s family foundation nearly doubles the $17 million already raised by the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Institute in the last fiscal year.
Gardner’s daughter and the institute’s director say they both hope the gift will make Cincinnati a world center for brain and nervous system research. Gardner’s daughter, Linda Gardner Mueller, said her mother suffered with Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
Officials say the new building will centralize institute functions now scattered across UC’s campus and expand research. The ultimate cost of the building isn’t known.
