A two-vehicle accident shortly before 2 p.m. Monday shut down the Masontown Bridge that carries Route 21 across the Monongahela River between Fayette and Greene counties.

Mike Riggen, chief of the Carmichaels/Cumberland Fire Department, said one of the vehicles, a pickup truck, caught fire when it and another truck collided on the Greene County side of the bridge.

Officials from the state Department of Transportation were at the site inspecting the bridge that will remain closed until PennDOT is satisfied it did not sustain any damage.

Motorists were advised to use detours on Routes 21, 88, 40 and 166.

It was not known if the drivers were injured.
