Canonsburg police get warrants for two wanted in car theft
Canonsburg police obtained arrest warrants for two people suspected of stealing a car left parked with the engine running outside a pharmacy last month.
Tiffany Nichol Hilliard, 28, of Butler, and Joshua K. Greaves, 32, of Sharon, are accused of stealing a Hyundai Sonata from outside Walgreen’s, 100 Cavasina Drive, Oct. 18.
Police obtained a warrant for Hilliard on charges of robbery of a motor vehicle, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment and theft, from District Judge David Mark on Friday. Police also obtained a warrant for Greaves on a charge of conspiracy.
Joshua Lemon of Muse and his girlfriend, Nicole Pero, were using a movie kiosk outside the store when she spotted a woman driving off in the car. Pero grabbed the door handle and yelled at the woman, later identified as Hilliard, to stop. Police said Hilliard accelerated, and Pero had to let go of the door handle.
Police said Hilliard stopped and picked up Greaves, who was across the street. The car then sped off on Morganza Road before turning onto McClelland Road and getting on Interstate 79. It was found last week in Wilkinsburg.
Lemon and Pero told police they noticed the two sitting on a bench near the kiosk. Police went into the store and checked video surveillance. The pharmacist gave police Hilliard’s name and told the officer the prescription had come from a Canonsburg Hospital emergency room doctor. She told the doctor she was living on Adams Avenue in Canonsburg.
The woman at the apartment on Adams told police the two came there that morning. She knew Hilliard because she was the mother of two of her brother’s children.
She suspected they were using drugs because they kept going to the bathroom. She found needles and empty stamp bags in the bathroom and told them they had to leave. Her roommate took the two to Canonsburg Hospital, reportedly so they could enter a rehabilitation program.
Police Detective Sgt. Al Coghill said they believe the couple are in the Butler area.
“We are not sure how they got to this area,” Coghill said. “Hilliard is wanted on warrants in Florida as well in Mercer.”
One of the warrants is for previously stealing a car. Coghill said the two are boyfriend and girlfriend.
The detective also reminded drivers not to leave their vehicles unattended with the engine running.
“It is not a good idea, even if you are only gone for a second,” Coghill said. “This is a crime of opportunity.”
Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call police at 724-745-8020, extension 523.
