JEFFERSON – Filer-Sadlek Post 954, The American Legion, Jefferson, will hold its annual Veterans Day parade and program Nov. 11.

Units participating in the parade will assemble at Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company at 10:15 a.m. The parade will begin at approximately 10:40 a.m., stopping in front of the Legion post home at 11 a.m., where there will be a 21-gun salute to departed veterans. The parade will then proceed to Jefferson-Morgan High School, where a program will begin at about 11:30 a.m.

The speaker will be Tom Shumaker, past western vice commander, PA American Legion. He served as vice commander during the 2012-13 year and he has also served on various committees at the national level. He is a past commander of the American Legion’s 25th District, Washington and Greene counties. He has been a member of the American Legion for 30 years and previously served as post commander in 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998 and 1999. He was also the post adjutant for 15 years.

He is a retired state mine inspector supervisor and has been married to the former Janet Folwell of Jefferson for 50 years. They are the parents of two children, Kelly and Brian of Clarksville, and have three grandchildren, Kadie, Joshua and Nicholas.

Following the speaking program, officers of Post 954 will conduct a Post Everlasting ceremony, where the military records of those members of Post 954 who have passed away since last Veterans Day, will be burned, symbolizing the transfer from Post 954 to the Post Everlasting. Those members being memorialized are John T. Howes, George Sepac, Ivan H. Guesman, Steve Kramrich Jr., James H. Tharp, Charles J. Halmos, Mike F. Yankura, Richard H. Ryan, Ronald Z. Krivitsky, George L. Misher, Joseph W. Adamson, James W. Maize and Albert J. DeVito.

The public is invited to come and observe this event and to honor all who have served.
