NEW BLOOMFIELD (AP) – Fire has damaged an historic covered bridge in central Pennsylvania.

Authorities say the Dellville Covered Bridge spanning Sherman’s Creek in Wheatfield Township was fully engulfed early Monday.

Crews remained on scene past daybreak inspecting damage. The roof appeared warped.

The wooden structure was built in 1889 and rebuilt after a 1972 flood.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
