Low turnout was predicted for the midterm elections across the state, including in Washington and Greene counties.
But several precincts had higher-than-average voter turnout.
Washington County Elections Director Larry Spahr said turnout was heavy in Peters, North Strabane and Cecil townships.
A large percentage of Observer-Reporter readers voted, according to a poll on the O-R website Tuesday. Of the 253 responses at 8:20 p.m., 77 percent said they voted.
The first ballot boxes arrived at the Washington County elections office at about 8:30 p.m..
