Heavy turnout reported in some precincts

Low turnout was predicted for the midterm elections across the state, including in Washington and Greene counties.

But several precincts had higher-than-average voter turnout.

Washington County Elections Director Larry Spahr said turnout was heavy in Peters, North Strabane and Cecil townships.

A large percentage of Observer-Reporter readers voted, according to a poll on the O-R website Tuesday. Of the 253 responses at 8:20 p.m., 77 percent said they voted.

The first ballot boxes arrived at the Washington County elections office at about 8:30 p.m..
