APOLLO (AP) – Police said an excavator being hauled on a trailer toppled onto a car in Western Pennsylvania likely because the trailer suffered a flat tire.

Apollo police told the Valley News Dispatch that the incident about 6:30 a.m. Monday didn’t involve a crane as originally reported by 911 dispatchers.

The excavator was on a flatbed trailer. Both are owned by Rural Valley Construction Inc., whose owner says the accident appears to be “one of those unlucky things that could’ve happened to anyone.”

Officer Jarred Kier agreed, saying the truck was turning after a red light when the excavator toppled onto the car, totaling it. The excavator remained attached to the trailer, which also overturned.

The car’s driver, 26-year-old Dustin Best, of Redbank Township, was treated and released for minor leg injuries after crawling from his vehicle.
