Association invites public to learn about birds of prey

The Buffalo Creek Watershed Association will host Arianne Leonard, assistant curator of education at the Oglebay Good Zoo in Wheeling, W.Va., for an interactive program on birds of prey at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, program, “The Importance of Raptors to Farmlands and Fields,” at the Buffalo Township Municipal Building, 400 Buffalo Center Lane, which is just off the Taylorstown Exit of Interstate 70.

Leonard plans to bring two or three of these large birds, such as a red-tailed hawk, a turkey vulture or a barn owl.

She will present information about the Farmland Raptor Program of Pennsylvania’s Hawk Mountain, which has a form on which to report raptor sightings. Snacks will be available, and there will be door prizes for children.

The Buffalo Creek Watershed Association is a citizen-based volunteer group dedicated to protecting and preserving the integrity, diversity and health of the natural resources contained within its area. Its activities include water monitoring, roadside cleanup, collaboration with local protective agencies, legislators and conservation organizations, public education and,partnering with groups such as the Southwest Environmental Health Project and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.
