A 19-year-old Washington man was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital after he was shot in the arm early Wednesday while walking along the 500 block of West Chestnut Street.

Javarr Marcell Thomas was found several blocks away on West Chestnut near Cumberland Avenue with a gunshot wound to his right arm. He told Washington police he heard shots fired and then felt he was hit in the right arm. He said he started running. Police took him to Washington Hospital. He was transferred to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.

City police were initially called about 2:45 a.m. after residents of an apartment in the 500 block of West Chestnut reported hearing several gunshots. Police talked with them, and they did not seen anyone other than a person dressed in dark clothing earlier that morning.

After checking for casings and finding none, police searched the area and found Thomas walking with another man.

Police returned to the apartment and learned Thomas went to the apartment building after he was shot, but then left again.

Thomas is the third person to be shot on city streets in less than two weeks. Detective Daniel Rush said it did not appear Wednesday’s shooting is connected to the separate Oct. 25 incidents that left one man dead and sent another to a Pittsburgh hospital with chest injuries.

Matthew E. McGlone, 21, of Washington, was shot multiple times behind the Comfort Lounge at 1187 Jefferson Ave. He died at the scene.

Two hours before McGlone was killed, Avery Selvey, 39, of Canonsburg, was found outside 245 Lincoln Terrace. Selvey was sitting in a car when he was shot in the upper chest.

No arrests were made in those shootings. Police Chief Chris Luppino said Wednesday there is nothing new to report on the investigations.

Thomas is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next week before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia stemming from an Oct. 10 fight in the 700 block of Jefferson Avenue. He is currently free on $5,000 bond.

Thomas also is awaiting trial on charges stemming from separate incidents earlier this year.

In May, city police charged him with possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of marijuana and flight to avoid apprehension. Police said he was found with 39 stamp bags of heroin when he was caught after running from officers trying to take him into custody on other charges.

Police charged him in September with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia as well as disorderly conduct stemming from a disturbance in the 200 block of Lincoln Terrace.
