Four teenagers on their way to class just after noon Thursday at Western Area Career and Technology Center escaped serious injury when the pickup truck they were riding in slid off Ullom Road in Chartiers Township and landed over a hillside in a creek.

Township police Officer Don Cooper said the truck, driven by James A. Reedy III, 17, of Burgettstown, slid off Ullom as Reedy was going around a bend. The truck barrel-rolled four or five times down a steep hill and landed on its wheels in the creek.

“They were all able to get out of the truck,” Cooper said. “But we needed the fire department to throw them down a rope to get them back up the embankment.”

The driver and his three passengers suffered bumps and bruises and were treated at the scene.

Mt. Pleasant Township police assisted.
