WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man who pleaded guilty in August to one count of criminal conspiracy and two counts of receiving stolen property in connection with the theft of a car and copper wire was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Farley Toothman to 6 to 24 months in prison.
William H. Orndoff Jr., 39, of 756 Kirby Road, was charged with being in possession of a car stolen April 4, 2013, from the Waynesburg Auto Sales and copper wire stolen later from Wall’s Sanitation in Blacksville, W.Va.
Orndoff pleaded guilty to the charges Aug. 19. As part of his sentence, he also was ordered to pay a $500 fine and $3,085 in restitution to Waynesburg Auto Sales.
Orndoff and Christopher P. Moore, 26, of 375 Ross St., Waynesburg, were arrested in May 2013 after state police recovered the stolen 2000 Honda Civic on Orndoff’s father’s property off Kirby Road in Whiteley Township.
When questioned by police, the two men admitted their involvement in the crime.
Moore said he took the key to the car from the Waynesburg Auto Sales office. According to the criminal complaint, Moore had received a key to the building when he was an employee by the building’s previous owner.
Orndoff told police he aided Moore in hiding the vehicle on his father’s property and the two had used it when the stole copper wire from Wall’s Sanitation. They sold the wire to Canon-Mac metals in Houston.
Moore, who also was charged with stealing a truck from Waynesburg Auto Sales, pleaded guilty in April to eight counts of theft, two counts of receiving stolen property and two counts of burglary. He was sentenced by Toothman on June 2 to 4 to 23 ½ months in Greene County jail.
