PERRY, Ohio (AP) – Operators of a nuclear power plant in northeast Ohio said there are no safety concerns after it automatically shut down.
FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. said early indications are Friday’s shutdown at the Perry nuclear power east of Cleveland was caused by a voltage problem in an electrical panel.
Those panels supply power to pumps that keep the reactor supplied with water.
It’s the second time within the last month a problem within the power supply circuitry caused the reactor to shut itself down.
A FirstEnergy official told The Plain Dealer newspaper in Cleveland the latest problem happened in the same electrical system but was not identical to the trouble in mid-October.
