Tracking our latest mystery
We have little doubt this photo from the Observer-Reporter archives was taken in the Washington area, probably in the 1920s. But where, exactly, is a mystery.
Ross Independent Oil Co., which operated the service station in the foreground, had several locations listed in the 1931 City Directory, none of which seem to match this topography. We’re hoping some of our readers can pinpoint this location for us.
Trolley tracks run alongside the street, and there is a sign for the Forest Inn, which was somewhere to the left out of the picture. Railroad tracks are visible on the right.
If you think you know where or when this photo was taken, or perhaps why, email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at pburroughs@observer-reporter.com, or call and leave a message for him along with your telephone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400.
With a little help from our readers, we should be able to solve this puzzle and publish our findings next Monday.
