School retirees celebrate 50 years
The Greene County Chapter of School Retirees recently celebrated its 50th anniversary as a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
The special event was hosted by the retirees from West Greene School District and was held at First Church of the Nazarene in Waynesburg. Following a luncheon served by Back Bay Catering, West Greene retiree Rosemary Andrews presented a talk on the founding of the Greene County chapter and the history of education in our area. This was followed with a performance by local comedienne Eulah Mae (aka Ramona Mills).
Special guest, Diana Armstrong, PASR president-elect, presented the chapter with an award in recognition of its 50th anniversary. The following award presentations were also made during the business meeting:
•Volunteer of the Year – Phyllis Canan, presented by Barb Ruschak
•John J. Dillon Award – Patty Jones, presented by Cathy Butcher
•PASR Region 7 Outstanding Chapter President – Colleen Valosen, presented by Patty Jones)
A special certificate of appreciation was given to Jerry Hardy for his many years of devoted service to the chapter as public relations coordinator, newsletter editor and publicity chairman.
