PITTSBURGH (AP) – The chief executive officer of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said the newspaper wants a court battle over a trust established by its late billionaire publisher to be open to the public.

CEO Ralph Martin said a story Wednesday in the Tribune-Review the newspaper’s stance “is consistent with our mission in favor of open government.”

On Tuesday, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette asked an Allegheny County judge to keep public any documents in a looming court battle between Richard Mellon Scaife’s children and a trust they claim was wrongly used to cover losses by his newspaper.

The executor of the trust disputes the allegations and calls them “outrageous.”
