WILKINSBURG (AP) – A Pittsburgh-area school district says two students were attacked while walking to school.

Acting Wilkinsburg superintendent Dan Matsook says the district put its middle/high school on high alert after the incident Monday morning.

Jasmine Bailey tells WPXI-TV more than a dozen teenagers ambushed her 15-year-old and 17-year-old daughters a few blocks from the school.

She says the girls were hospitalized for treatment of broken bones and concussions.

No arrests have been made.

In a separate incident Monday, the district says a student assaulted a security officer after officials tried to confiscate his cell phone.

The district prohibits students from carrying cell phones during school hours.

Wilkinsburg is about eight miles east of downtown Pittsburgh.
