WAYNESBURG – State police have charged a Carmichaels man with killing a dog with a bow and arrow Oct. 12 in Franklin Township.

The dog’s owner, Jason Shriver, of 408 Whites Ridge, told police he was away from his residence and came home to find the family dog behind his garage with an arrow stuck in it.

Drake Edward Galloway, 19, of Route 21 Mobile Home Park, is charged with cruelty to animals and conspiracy to commit cruelty to animals.

Trooper Jason Clayton said Shriver’s front porch was covered in blood and tracks led to the back of the house where the dog was found.

The arrest came about when Trooper Jay Allen was called to the scene of an accident where a Jeep had crashed in a field. Allen told Clayton he saw a bow in the vehicle and provided Clayton with the names of the occupants. On Oct. 13, Clayton located the Jeep parked along Barton Hollow Road, and the trooper spoke with Edward Wilkin, 23, who was a passenger in the Jeep when Galloway and an unidentified 17-year old allegedly took turns shooting out the window with a bow and arrow. Wilkin told Clayton Galloway and the teen shot at deer, cows, horses and a dog as they drove around. He said he thought he heard the juvenile passenger say he thought he hit a dog with one of the shots.

Galloway was interviewed by Clayton Oct. 19 and admitted to being the driver when the teen shot the dog. Galloway allegedly told Clayton the bow used to shoot the animal belonged to him. He said he removed his Jeep without permission from the field on Whites Ridge Road with a tow truck from Wade’s Towing, where he was previously employed.

A preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
