Deer Lakes expected to hire Avella superintendent
Deer Lakes Board of Education was expected to name Avella Area School District Superintendent Dr. Janell Logue-Belden as the district’s new superintendent during Monday night’s voting meeting.
Logue-Belden would replace Dr. Janet Ciramella, who will retire in April after 25 years with district. Deer Lakes is located in Cheswick.
Logue-Belden served as Avella’s superintendent since September 2011. Prior to that, she worked for nearly a decade in Sto-Rox School District, where she was a substitute superintendent, assistant to the superintendent, curriculum director and building principal. Logue-Belden previously held administrative posts in Peters Township School District and Keystone Oaks School District, where she began her career as a foreign language instructor.
In a news release, Deer Lakes said she was chosen after an extensive vetting process that included input from teachers, administrators, students and members of the public.
Logue-Belden could not be reached Monday for comment. She is expected to begin at Deer Lakes Jan. 5. Her base salary will begin at $115,000 and includes merit-based incentives that could increase her pay.
