A Charleroi man was arrested Friday by Charleroi Regional police after he allegedly tried to hit his 16-year-old stepson with his pickup truck during a dispute at their home.

James L. Edwards, 41, of 213 Crest Ave., also is accused of hitting his wife, Danielle Rainey, in the face.

The 16-year-old told police his mother had gotten into an argument with Edwards. The boy said he came down from the second floor to make sure his mother was OK when he saw Edwards hit her in the face.

The 16-year-old went out onto the porch so he could call 911. Edwards reportedly ran toward the boy, so the 16-year-old ran.

The boy was running down Crest when Edwards allegedly got into his truck and started chasing the teen. The 16-year-old told police Edwards almost hit him and he jumped over a fence to avoid being struck by the truck.

Police said they found Rainey at home with four children ranging in age from 8 to 14. When police approached Edwards, he allegedly bumped into one of the officers.

Police said they struggled with Edwards as they tried to put his hands behind his back but eventually were able to subdue him.

Edwards was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of children. He was placed in Washington County jail on a $20,000 percentage bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 1 before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
