ERIE – A California comedian who moved to snowy northwestern Pennsylvania bought a snow blower for $300 after jokingly trying to raise money for one on the online crowdfunding site, gofundme.com.

Walter Campbell told the Erie Times-News he started the crowdfunding effort half in jest after shoveling more than a foot of snow Thursday. Erie saw heavy snow earlier than normal this year because of back-to-back arctic air systems that fueled lake-effect snows.

The 40-year-old is a full-time college communications student who moonlights as a comedian. He recently moved from California after his wife got a job near Erie.

Campbell said two people donated a total of $10 to his efforts. He’ll refund that money after buying his own snow blower because of a forecast calling for up to two feet of snow by today.
