WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man pleaded guilty last week before Greene County Judge Farley Toothman to charges involving three cases of theft that occurred in Waynesburg in the last year-and-a-half.
Charles Leroy Hodgson, 22, of 154 Second Ave., Waynesburg, was sentenced to three years of probation, fined $300 and ordered to perform 150 hours of community service.
He also was ordered to pay $118.38 in restitution to the owner of a vehicle for cutting the battery cables.
Hedgson pleaded guilty to theft and receiving stolen property for the Aug. 24, 2013, theft of a woman’s purse in Waynesburg. The purse, owned by Synthia Montgomery, contained $21, credit cards and identification.
He pleaded guilty to attempted theft and criminal mischief in connection with the March 18 attempt to steal a battery from a vehicle in a parking lot on Strawberry Alley.
Hodgson and another man fled when police drove by on patrol and saw the hood of the vehicle opened.
He also pleaded guilty to theft and receiving stolen property for the theft of a lawn mower from a porch on South Richhill Street April 27.
In another case before the court, Morgan Elias Hunt, 18, of 109 Saw Mill Road, Waynesburg, pleaded guilty before Greene County Judge William Nalitz to driving under the influence of alcohol and a summary traffic violation.
Hunt was arrested March 8 in Waynesburg after his vehicle ran over a hill into a brush pile off Second Avenue. His blood-alcohol content was 0.131 percent.
Hunt was sentenced to 48 hours to 5 years in jail and given credit for the two days he already served.
He also was fined $700.
