A former employee of Sam’s Club at Trinity Point was charged Monday by South Strabane Township police after she allegedly obtained two gift cards that were reportedly donations for charities, including a Washington church.

Nettie Moore, 35, of 480 Jefferson Ave., Washington, was charged with theft by deception after police were notified of the theft last month.

Moore, who worked at the store for seven years, reportedly presented a letter from the church Oct. 14 seeking a donation of a gift card.

Moore told store representatives she would take the card to the church.

Moore reportedly used the card to purchase gas at a Sam’s Club in Beckley, W.Va., Oct. 20.

The investigation showed a second card was also obtained earlier last month and run through as a donation.

Surveillance video reportedly shows Moore putting that card in the pocket of her work vest.

She then allegedly used that card to buy gas Oct. 13 and purchase food at the club’s cafe the following day.

“She supposedly got the letter from a friend who was affiliated with the church,” said township police Detective Ken Torboli. “The church has gotten gift cards before but there is currently no fundraiser.”

The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
