PITTSBURGH (AP) – A busy Pittsburgh bridge has been closed following a pedestrian accident involving a dump truck that has left one person dead and injured two.

Public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler says one pedestrian was killed and a second critically injured after being hit by the truck at the Smithfield Bridge and East Carson Street. The busy intersection is near Station Square, a former railroad station that’s been redeveloped as a shopping and entertainment complex just south of downtown.

Toler says the driver of the truck was also taken to a hospital, though it’s unclear how or how badly that person was injured.

The incident happened about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.

One pedestrian died at the scene while the other was taken to UPMC Mercy hospital with a head injury.
