Avella Area School District Superintendent Dr. Janell Logue-Belden gave her resignation letter Wednesday to the Avella Area School Board during its monthly meeting.

Logue-Belden’s last day is Jan. 5. She was hired as Deer Lakes new superintendent Monday at the board of education’s voting meeting. She will replace Dr. Janet Ciramella, who will retire in April after 25 years with district. Deer Lakes is in Cheswick.

Logue-Belden served as Avella’s superintendent since September 2011. Prior to that, she worked for nearly a decade in Sto-Rox School District, where she was a substitute superintendent, assistant to the superintendent, curriculum director and building principal. Logue-Belden previously held administrative posts in Peters Township School District and Keystone Oaks School District, where she began her career as a foreign language instructor.

Corey McConn, Avella’s school board president, said an acting superintendent will be named during the board’s Dec. 3 reorganization meeting. Decisions on the hiring process will follow.

“We wish her luck in her endeavor,” McConn said Thursday. “We were happy with the three years she had at Avella.”

Logue-Belden could not be reached for comment. Her base salary at Deer Lakes will begin at $115,000 and includes merit-based incentives that could increase her pay.
