State police in Belle Vernon are looking for the driver of a black Dodge pickup truck that struck a vehicle while it was turning onto Mendon Road in South Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County, Thursday morning.

Police described the driver of the truck as a white male.

According to police, Andrew Peterson of Velle Vernon was traveling west on state Route 31 and was about to turn left onto Mendon Road when the driver of the truck, who was following “extremely close behind,” crashed into the rear of Peterson’s Honda Civic, causing him to hit a stone storm culvert and flip onto the passenger’s side.

The driver of the truck fled, driving west on Interstate 70 before he took the Smithton exit.

Police said a review of video showed a black male in a gold Jeep Grand Cherokee helped the driver of the truck repair a tire before they both continued driving west on Interstate 70.

The pickup is described as a quad cab with a chrome grill, chrome door handles, chrome window rain visors above all windows, a chrome gas cap cover and a smoke stack in the bed behind the truck cab.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police in Belle Vernon at 724-929-6262.
