CARMICHAELS – An Allegheny County man, posing as a Kirby vacuum cleaner salesman, was apprehended by Cumberland Township police Tuesday when it was discovered the man was wanted for failing to appear at an October preliminary hearing on aggravated assault charges.

Police said Robert Lee Lawrence Jr., 27, of 2636 Leland St., Pittsburgh, along with four other individuals, was going door to door Tuesday in the area of Jolinda Drive in Cumberland Township, trying to solicit sales of Kirby vacuum cleaners.

Cumberland Township police Chief Craig Miller said his department received calls from suspicious residents.

When officers checked Lawrence’s identification, they learned he was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Wilkinsburg Police Department.

He was accused of striking his wife in the face and ribs and cutting her with a steak knife, causing lacerations to her wrist and finger, following an argument Oct. 16. She was treated at UPMC-Shadyside hospital for her injuries.

Lawrence was arrested and turned over to Allegheny County constables.
