PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh is offering up a holiday treat for downtown shoppers: free parking.

The city’s parking authority says starting this week it’ll waive fees at 11 garages each Saturday until Christmas.

The authority says it’ll also give a free pass the day after Thanksgiving, the frantic shopping day known as Black Friday.

Officials say free parking helps attract shoppers to the city’s core.

The city council will vote next week on extending the free parking program to street meters.

The parking authority says offering free parking costs it about $350,000 in revenue.
