Police: Pittsburgh man wanted in Canonsburg sweep arrested with more heroin
A Pittsburgh man who was one of 17 people wanted on warrants served during a drug sweep in Canonsburg earlier this week was arrested late Thursday afternoon when he allegedly sold suspected heroin to an undercover officer.
Scott Carlo Donofrio, 25, of Negley Avenue, was taken into custody as he allegedly was delivering heroin to an undercover detective at a preset meeting spot in the parking lot of the Home Depot in South Strabane Township.
Detectives with the Washington County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force and South Strabane police said they seized two bricks of heroin and several hundred dollars from Donofrio.
Donofrio was wanted by Canonsburg police after he allegedly sold heroin to a confidential informant and undercover officer June 11. The informant and officer got into a car with Donofrio, stayed about a minute, and came back out with 21 stamp bags of the suspected drug that was purchased for $180, police said.
Canonsburg police, working with the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, conducted the sweep earlier this week that targeted low- to mid-level street dealers following a six-month investigation. The sweep was aimed not only at getting suspected dealers off the streets, but cutting down on related street crime.
Eight were taken into custody Tuesday, and another four, including Donofrio, were arrested since.
Donofrio was arraigned before District Judge Larry Hopkins on charges of possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin, which stemmed from the previous Canonsburg warrant. He was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000. The task force will file charges later in connection with Thursday’s arrest. A preliminary hearing on the first set of charges is set for Dec. 10 before District Judge David Mark.
