An assistant engineer and four police officers are positions South Fayette Township is looking to fill as the 2015 draft operating budget of $9.79 million, that holds property taxes at 3.48 mills, was approved last week by the township commissioners. A final budget is to be voted Dec. 10.
“We’re looking to hire two officers in the first quarter of 2015 and two more at the end of the year as current officers retire or are promoted,” manager Ryan Eggleston said.
The assistant engineer position would help with ongoing development in the township.
“We have a lot of things going on in planning-development stages. It’ll give us more manpower as right now we’re pulling some public works employees off their usual jobs to finish projects with the engineer,” Eggleston said.
Also at last week’s meeting, applications from UPMC Children’s South, EBY Sales and Alpine Point for Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance, or LERTA, were tabled.
Commissioner Ray Pitetti asked why the applications should be tabled, to which Eggleston said Allegheny County authorities haven’t yet provided necessary scheduling information for the potential tax relief.
Eggleston said the township is fortunate to have a balanced budget while holding the line on real estate taxes but long-term funding sources would need to be found for capital improvements projects like road paving and stormwater management.
