Waynesburg Christmas parade planned for Dec. 6

Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce is making final preparations for the 2014 Downtown Waynesburg Christmas Parade to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. The execution of the parade is underwritten by Greene County Tourism.
Nearly 100 entries are scheduled to appear representing schools, churches, civic organizations and businesses from all over the county.
Miss Rain Day 2014, Morgan Voithofer, and the chamber’s 2014 Distinguished Service Award winners, the Rev. Dr. Donald P. Wilson, Patriot’s Dream Riding Association and Ed and Sandy Zeglen will have the honor of leading the parade down High Street as its grand marshals.
Trophies and ribbons will be awarded to the top three floats as well as those showing the most original, best design and most spirit. Judging will take place during the lineup in the staging area. And, of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be the guests of honor at the end of the parade.
The parade unit numbers and lineup parking locations for participants can be found on the chamber of commerce’s website at www.waynesburgchamber.com.Hard copies of the lineup instructions and map were mailed to all participants Wednesday.
Once again, WCYJ Television from Waynesburg University will be videotaping the parade for a later broadcast on local stations. WCYJ is a student-operated television station under the direction of Bill Molzon.
Residents living around the university and parks are reminded that lineup will begin in that area at noon on parade day. The United Methodist Church, Hook Law Office and both Baptist Church parking lots will be in use for lineup and parking in these locations will not be available.
Several streets will be blocked to traffic not associated with the parade starting at noon and ending at 4 p.m. Route 19 South traffic and High Street traffic from McCracken’s Pharmacy to the First Baptist Church will also be detoured beginning at 2 p.m. Traffic will be detoured using West Street and Franklin Street.
Traffic traveling westbound on High Street should use the left lane turning left at McCracken’s Pharmacy and follow the posted detour. Traffic traveling northbound should use the right lane turning right at McCracken’s Pharmacy and follow the posted detour.
Parking will not be permitted on Franklin Streets between West and Washington streets and on Richhill Street from College to High streets on parade day between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Parking is not permitted on High Street from West to Porter streets between the hours of 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
