WCHS seniors named students of month
WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg Central High School seniors Hannah Gibbons and Christopher Thomas were selected by the high school faculty as Waynesburg Lions Club’s students of the month for November.
Gibbons, a daughter of Robert and Renee Gibbons, of Zimmer Lane, Waynesburg, maintains a 4.0 grade-point average.
She is president of National Honor Society, vice president of the Spanish Club and is a member of student council, varsity academic league, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Alpha Club, Lettermen’s Club, SADD, TV workshop, stage crew, Scrabble team and Youth Alive.
Gibbons received highest honors in English, science, math and history and the Anna Gordon Meighen World History Award; is an academic league champion and a six-time Scrabble tournament champion.
Gibbons played varsity basketball and softball. She was named to Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association’s first-team all-state, was a finalist for the state Gatorade softball player of the year and was a three-time member of the all-section softball team.
Outside of school, she participated in club softball with Pittsburgh Power Gold Organization, helped run softball clinics for the Pittsburgh Power organization and is an umpire for local softball leagues.
Gibbons plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and major in economics.
Thomas is a son of David and Tonette Thomas of Oakview Drive, Waynesburg.
He is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, French Club and academic league and is an elementary tutor.
He has received high and highest honors throughout high school and received an invitation to attend the 2014 World Affairs Conference and a scholarship to Penn State Conservation Leadership School. He participates in Relay for Life.
Thomas shoots competitive rifle. He was on the fourth place national champion air rifle team; placed first, second, third and fourth in multiple regional air rifle competitions; and is on the first-place team for the Greater Pittsburgh Suburban League.
Thomas plans to attend college to study engineering and shoot on the college’s rifle team.
