A West Alexander man died and three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday night in West Finley Township.

Mitchell Alan Hayes, 20, of Lake Road, was killed in the 11:20 p.m. crash on Burnsville Ridge Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene 90 minutes later by Washington County Coroner Tim Warco. He ruled the death accidental and caused by blunt force trauma.

According to state police in Washington, Hayes was the only occupant of a Saturn sedan heading south when he lost control while negotiating a right curve, crossing into the northbound lane and colliding with a Ford truck heading north.

The truck operator was identified as Roy Welling, 42, of West Finley, whose three passengers were identified as Charles Gregg Jr., 28; Dylan Welling, 15; and Jamie Hartzog, 19.

Police said both Wellings and Hartzog were treated for minor injuries at Washington Hospital and released. They also reported that Roy Welling may be facing alcohol-related charges pending lab results.

West Finley Fire and Rescue, Claysville Fire and Rescue, Dallas (W.Va.) Fire and Rescue and Washington Ambulance & Chair Service responded.

State police in Washington are investigating.
