LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania man convicted of setting a former friend on fire has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison.
35-year-old Jeremy Hostetter of Marietta was sentenced Thursday in Lancaster County Court.
Susquehanna regional police said he threw gasoline on 57-year-old Marlin Dyer and set him on fire with a cigarette lighter. Witnesses helped put out the flames
Defense attorney Robert Beyer said victim attacked his client and weighed 300 pounds, and Hostetter was just defending himself.
But Lancaster County Judge David Ashworth noted that jurors didn’t believe that story and convicted him of attempted murder, aggravated assault and arson.
Ashworth said Hostetter could have run but instead “You chose to light the man on fire.”
