A Chartiers Township man already wanted on a warrant for allegedly having a stolen motorcycle was arrested Sunday by South Strabane Township police on charges he stole items from Wal-Mart at Trinity Point.

Alexandros Krotinis, 28, of 519 Highfield Ave., had an outstanding warrant obtained by Chartiers police from District Judge David Mark on a charge of receiving stolen property after he allegedly was found to be in possession of a stolen motorcycle.

Police were called to Wal-Mart about 7 p.m. Sunday for a report of a shoplifter struggling with store security. When police arrived, the suspect reportedly was running shirtless through the parking lot. Police said they ordered the alleged thief, later identified as Krotinis, to stop, but he continued running down Trinity Point Drive toward McDonald’s.

Police said Krotinis was running through the drive-through area of the restaurant lot when officers deployed a Taser. One probe hit Krotinis, but he kept running, police said. He then ran in front of a Washington police cruiser. A South Strabane police officer again used the Taser and was able to take him into custody.

Police said Krotinis was accused of stealing cables from the store. Store security was trying to apprehend him when a constable yelled he had a knife, so they let go of him, police said. Krotinis reportedly ran into a woman before fleeing the store.

In the Chartiers case, police said they charged him after finding him with a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle that had been reported stolen in July to Canonsburg police by Kevin Settimio of North Jefferson Avenue. The motorcycle, which had been red, was painted black, police said.

Krotinis was arraigned Sunday night before Mark on charges of retail theft, escape, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. Officer Carmine Molinaro, who filed the charges against him, asked Mark to set a high bond after receiving information Krotinis had moved out of his girlfriend’s home in Canonsburg and was planning to move out of state.

Krotinis was arraigned by video from the jail Monday morning before Mark on the receiving charge. Mark set an additional $10,000 bond.
