STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) – The trial of suspended Steubenville schools superintendent Michael McVey was delayed until Jan. 12.
McVey’s trial in eastern Ohio’s Jefferson County was scheduled to begin Oct. 14. A spokesman for Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said the delay was granted because a witness was not available for trial this month.
The 51-year-old McVey faces felony charges of obstructing justice and tampering with evidence for allegedly misleading authorities about the school’s investigation of an August 2012 sexual assault committed by two members of the football team.
He also faces a misdemeanor count of making a false statement for allegedly concealing knowledge about rumors of a teenage sex and drinking party four months earlier.
Court documents accused McVey of destroying emails and computer data.
