Washington apartment building catches fire
WASHINGTON – An eight-unit apartment building in Washington caught fire early Thursday morning. The blaze at 351 Locust Ave. started at 5:35 a.m., and it was brought under control by 6 a.m.
All occupants of the three-story building were able to exit, and no injuries were reported.
Washington fire Captain Jerry Coleman said one apartment on the second floor was gutted. He said the man living there woke up and saw he was surrounded by fire, but was able to leave safely.
“Police and our crew were able to get the other occupants of the other apartments out quickly,” Coleman said.
Coleman estimated between $30,000 and $40,000 in damage. He said the fire marshal is investigating the cause, but it appeared to be accidental.
