JOHNSTOWN (AP) – A former western Pennsylvania attorney who abandoned his practice without notice and now drives a bus in Florida faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to tax evasion.
Fifty-nine-year-old Walter Pruchnik Jr. lived and practiced in Windber, when he filed tax returns understating his income from 2008 to 2011. He’s agreed to pay the Internal Revenue Service nearly $155,000 in back taxes as part of Friday’s guilty plea before a federal judge in Johnstown.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Haines told the judge that Pruchnik had stolen some clients’ money before he walked away from his practice in late 2011.
Pruchnik must return to Pennsylvania for sentencing April 2.
He now work as a bus driver and lives in Winter Garden, Fla.
