Former JROTC instructor to stand trial in drinking-related case

AMBRIDGE (AP) – A former Junior ROTC instructor at a Western Pennsylvania high school was ordered to stand trial on charges that he got into a drunken argument at a social club and was still intoxicated when he drove a student to school for an activity later the same morning.
The Marine Corps rescinded the teaching certification of 48-year-old First Sgt. Carl Curtis, of Baden.
That happened after Curtis allegedly got into a drunken argument with the Ambridge Area School Board president at the same American Legion post where police said he had also argued with his wife Sept. 7. He’s also charged with child endangerment for driving a student to school about 5:30 that same morning.
Defense attorney Charles Bowers Jr. said he believes Curtis “will be vindicated by a jury.”
