North Strabane firefighters responded to a fire in the basement of the DoubleTree hotel at 340 Racetrack Road about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Fire Chief Mark Grimm said they found a basement air conditioning unit on fire, which caused parts of the hotel’s fifth floor to fill with smoke. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in about 45 minutes, Grimm said, and no hotel patrons were injured.
