Garden club holds annual meeting
The historic Summit Inn in Farmington was the setting for the 14th annual meeting for District X of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania.
District X Director Mary Jane Martucci introduced the officers of GCFP: Betsy Smith, president; Sharon Brown, first vice president; and Chris Laskosky, second vice president.
State board members, District X board members and the presidents of the 11 clubs that compose District X were recognized. There were 76 members in attendance.
District X awards were presented by Awards Chairman Kay Bair, president of the Rices Landing Town & Country Garden Club, and Sandy Rantovich, a member of Uniontown Flower Club. Twenty-nine Daffodil Awards and 47 Laurel Awards were presented to members of the 11 clubs.
Lorrie Wolstoncroft of Giant Oaks Garden Club was given the Butterfly Award, which is given to one outstanding member of the district.
Linda Schwartz of Giant Oaks Garden Club was the District X winner of the C.A.R. Perennial Bloom Award.
New district officers for 2014-2016 were installed. They were Haddie Weber, district director; Donna McKnight, secretary; and Janice Yeaton, treasurer. The position of assistant director was not filled.
Carol Chernega from One Garden at a Time presented the afternoon program, “How to Create an English Garden.” The presentation focused on the elements of English Garden styles.
