Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle closing some ‘nests’

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle supermarket chain is closing some of its nests. Eagle’s Nests, to be more precise.
The chain is closing 61 of 109 of the child-activity centers located in its 229 stores.
The chain says fewer customers are using the centers, where children ages 3 to 9 are supervised while they play with toys and videogames as their parents shop. Children can stay for up to two hours in the centers, the first of which opened in 1993.
The chain is keeping 48 Eagles Nests open in “strategically located” stores, so parents who still desire the service will be able to find one in a store near them.
Fourteen of the nests being closed are in western Pennsylvania. The chain also has stores in Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia.
