Action: At the request of the planning commission, the board approved an agreement with GAI Consultants Inc. associated with its contract for inspecting construction of state bridge projects, including $73,258 for the South Wade Avenue bridge in Washington, known as Chartiers No. 61, and $77,496 for the Daisytown bridge, known as Pike Run No. 11. County liquid fuels allocation for construction inspection will be 5 percent and 20 percent, respectively.

The commissioners also granted an extension to General Industries to complete the Thompson Hill boat launch before Dec. 10. The previous date was Oct. 31.

At the request of the health center, the board agreed Dr. Julie W. Wilcox will continue to be medical director of rehabilitation services for another six months at her original contract rate of $1,500 per month.

At the request of the coroner, the commissioners will seek proposals for the purchase of morgue equipment, and at the request of the Building and Grounds, Information Technology and Public Safety departments, the county will advertise for bids to construct two climate-controlled storage rooms in the county parking garage.

At the request of the Public Safety Department, Physio-Control will provide technical services support at a cost of $1,480 per year for two automatic external defibrillators not included in a previous contract.

At the request of the jail, the board approved a three-year maintenance agreement with Com-Tec for a security system at a first-year cost of $9,856. Successive years will cost $14,598. The jail housed 306 male and 71 female inmates at the end of September.

The commissioners awarded a $12,287 contract to Don Greer Fashion Floors for carpeting and flooring in the chambers of President Judge Debbie O’Dell Seneca, and a $19,900 contract to Elert and Associates, technology consultants’ networking division, to study fire service communications equipment at the request of the Public Safety Department. Elert is to ensure equipment is functioning properly. If the system needs to be changed, the firm is to recommend how to improve communications.

Among the proclamations issued by the commissioners was recognition of Pennsylvania’s “Promise for Children” program to promote early learning. Donna Shriver, president of Smart Kids Child Care and Learning Center, arrived with a group of children who performed at the meeting.
