Pa. American Water starts upgrade
Pennsylvania American Water Co. is beginning to construct a $1.1 million wet weather tank at its Claysville-Donegal wastewater treatment plant.
The 400,000-gallon tank will help eliminate sanitary sewage overflows into a nearby waterway.
“The elimination of SSOs in the Claysville-Donegal wastewater treatment and collection system requires substantial investment that will benefit our customers,” project manager Scott Hilty said in a news release.
“This upgrade will eliminate overflows into Dutch Fork Creek and address health and environmental issues that are a result of sewer overflows.”
The tank is designed to accommodate rainfall associated with a five-year storm event. It is expected to be up and running by the end of the year.
The tank construction is part of a $2.5 million project to upgrade the wastewater system. Other upgrades include eliminating combined sewer laterals and improving flows to the plant.
The plant has the capacity to treat 160,000 gallons of sewage each day and serves about 500 customers in Claysville and Donegal townships.
